Our roots trace richly to Middlebury and the College that was founded in 1800.
ln 1803, Loyal Case, a brilliant young lawyer and abolitionist, purchased from town father, Gamaliel Painter, a parcel on South Pleasant Street. He proceeded to build a classic Federal-style home. ln the years that followed, it grew, adding to its splendid presence, overlooking the Town’s green

This is a lovely, historic inn, very centrally located in the heart of Middlebury, close to shops and university campus, comfortable and well heated rooms, very clean. And to top it off breakfast is served in bed!
One of the most beautiful Inn's I've ever stayed in. Beautiful house and room! Located in the central part of the town so its in a good place for walking around. Room was a good temperature and was quiet. Breakfast is delivered to your room when you are ready for breakfast.
Amazing staff, perfect location in downtown Middlebury. Rooms are clean and spacious, bed was comfortable!
Lovely period Inn, sympathetically restored and totally up-to-date with wifi and satellite TV. Wonderful staff, very helpful, nice personal touches like a bouquet of flowers as we were staying over the holiday/Christmas period. Own parking. good position in town. Easy to find. All in all a very pleasant experience and we will be back.
Great location, charming, comfortable Inn! The location was perfect. A short walk to just about everything in town and Middlebury College. We stayed in the Addison which is a two room suite that accommodates up to 4. It was quite spacious. Both rooms were very warm and light due to the wall of windows. The staff is extremely accommodating and and was a big reason we had such a pleasant stay. Breakfast in your room and the always available coffee, tea, hot chocolate, water and evening cookies are nice touches. This was our first visit to Vermont but we plan to return and stay at Inn on the Green for some good New England charm.
This place is gorgeous! Staff is very friendly and the complimentary breakfast with room service was a nice touch. Wished we were staying one more night!
Friendly, clean, above and beyond service. Right in the center of town, the staff was friendly and helpful. Room clean and beautiful. Coffee and tea always available. A great selection for the breakfast that was delivered when we wanted it. It had snowed during the night and the parking lot was plowed AND they had shoveled around our car so we could easily get in. I highly recommend The Inn on the Green.
This is a beautiful inn, and each room is unique, comfortable, cozy and welcoming - definitely a lovely home away from home for my relatives. It is centrally located to all the Town of Midddlebury has to offer, and directly across the street from the Town Hall Theater, which offers wonderful family entertainment year-round. I highly recommend the Inn on the Green.
So relaxing and beautiful. We stayed in the carriage house. It was so clean. Everything about it was so comfortable. Aveda products were in the bathroom. Breakfast was fresh and healthy (of course I did have a chocolate croissant), fruit, bread, Greek yogurt, et. I hope to be back soon!
Our family of 4 stayed in the Addison room for a long weekend and we loved it. The room was clean and comfortable with a queen bed in the bedroom and a twin/trundle bed in the living room. The staff went above and beyond. Overall, we had a great trip and felt like we had a good value at the Inn for the quality of the room, food, and service.
What a Lucky Find in the Center of Middlebury!! The Bristol Suite was spacious and lovely. The in-room breakfast options were AMAZING and delivered piping hot.... The coffee was fantastic, and I'm not sure where they found fresh berries in FEBRUARY, but I enjoyed every bite. The common area was charming, warm and FULL of plentiful healthy snacks. The staff was remarkably sweet, accommodating and truly made us feel like part of the family.
The main house of the Inn is old and beautiful. All the rooms are different and well appointed with antiques and carpets. Each evening you hang a menu on your door of what you want for breakfast and the next morning it is delivered to your room. There is always coffee and cookies available. The Inn on the Green will make your Middlebury visit a very special one.
Wonderful staff, location, and experience. This charming inn was a pleasure. Clean and with all the charm of an inn in an antique building, without being stuffy or fussy. Parking is easy. Attractions in old town Middlebury are right out the front door. The owner and staff were very friendly, hospitable, and attentive. Breakfast service was excellent, and the foods available are locally sourced and tasty.
